Urban Rivals is an online browser based TCG (Trading Card Game) that is both easy to get into and hard to let go of. The game features relatively simple mechanics and there aren’t any advanced concepts to grasp which might make it sound like a dull game at start but it is exactly what makes it so addicting. The fact that you won’t need to learn some complex card techniques means that you can climb up the ranks with relative ease.
During your first few minutes in the world of Urban Rivals, the game does a really nice job of basically introducing you to everything. Your first duel basically acts as a tutorial and teaches you all the core basics you need to know to get started off in the game. You’ll be taught what cards to play and when, how to use power-ups, how to boost the attack power of your cards and other related things. Once you’re done with the tutorial duels you’ll be set free into the world of Urban Rivals.
Speaking purely from a gameplay standpoint, Urban Rivals is really simple and easy to get the hang of. While yes this might put off some people who are into really complex TCGs with different things to master but at the same time this means that it will appeal to a much wider audience so anyone can just pop in and play it without having to spend an absurd amount of time just trying to get the hang of things.
Every duel in Urban Rivals is turn based and a player has to utilize their turn by selecting a card that they see would be fit in the situation and drawing it and at the same time they can also use ‘Pillz’ to temporarily increase the power of the card for that specific turn. You cannot see what card your opponent has drawn so there are also a whole lot of mind games going on between the players.
Other than the gameplay itself, you’ll have a huge amount of game modes to choose from so you can be sure that there will be at least one that perfectly suits all your preferences. There are modes like Elo, Death Match and Survival etc and each of these modes has a different and unique rule set which you’ll have to get the hang of.
As for graphics and visuals, you can’t really say much about a browser based TCG since they aren’t really focused towards these things. However, the game does look nice as in the dueling animations feel smooth and the characters drawn on your cards also look like a lot of effort went into them.
Urban Rivals has some micro-transactions of its own but not as many as you’d expect. The main objects in the game that you can acquire for real world money are the ‘Pillz’ which are used to power-up your cards temporarily. Other than this you won’t find many things that you can acquire with real money.
Urban Rivals is a really good TCG that is super easy to get into and manages to be a fun experience even for players who aren’t big fans of the genre. Urban Rivals Summary
