If living the life of a high and mighty lord sounds appealing and seemingly all enjoyable, then allow Stronghold Kingdoms, an MMORTS game from Firefly Studios, to provide an inside-look at what living the life of a medieval lord is really like.
Being a lord or lady may all seem like a dream come true but behind that glorious façade, involves tons of hard work and a dozen more doses of perseverance. At the same time, it is also quite assuring and rewarding to live the noble life. All these notions come into play with the game Stronghold Kingdoms as the general gameplay involves first starting out alone as a lowly peasant and then allows the player to move on up the ranks to become a proud and might lord or lady who must be able to build an impenetrable stronghold and ultimately dominate the land.
As the game commences, a tutorial is launched to show the users how to move around the game. Immediately after, the user must now begin the adventure by putting up their village. The player has the option to allow the computer to randomly place their village on a certain part of the map or the player may prefer to manually locate a suitable area for their village. Upon selection, of where the player wishes to settle, the player may now begin to settle in their village and start building.
The game offers players a limited number of resources for the player to begin village building. In addition, the players are granted a free Premium Token, which allows moving existing structures to other locations, for those who have completed the tutorial. In relation to the location of the structures, being a strategy game, it is crucial for players to properly strategize and plan out where the location of their buildings will be since resources vary on the land.
Aside from the location, players must also learn to manage time when putting up their constructed dwellings. After placement of one building, the time it will take to build a similar structure would increase exponentially. Given that, wanting to shorten the wait time would require players to dole out some money to purchase some Premium Tokens that will help shorten the wait time.
The game also has a ranking system to guide the players. They begin as a meek peasant and later on rank up to become a prince. Once players have successfully gain enough “Honour” (experience points in this game), building a castle or their own stronghold may already be possible—all in good time perhaps. And speaking of time, once more, building a castle involves time. To shorten the waiting time involved for the castle to be finished, players may opt to pay up.
One major aspect of the game involves the proper allocation of research points, which are points accumulated through leveling up that the players use to prioritize which type of research to focus on—these research may be focused on food, weapons, theology, and even resource gathering, which may all affect the strength and stability of the player’s castle.
In conclusion, Stronghold Kingdoms is an enjoyable RTS game that provides players quite an accurate picture and feel of what living in power is really like as it keeps players on the edge of their seats as it banks on gripping gameplay involving war strategy and community building.
