Supercell brought the mobile gaming universe to heel with Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, two equally outstanding games that topped the charts in recent years. Their newest game, Brawl Stars is gradually reaching the pedestal those two games are on, and despite it just being on a soft launch, it is a hit among the mobile gaming community. With gameplay videos and mobile gaming channels on YouTube promoting it, it won’t be a surprise as to why it will be on most people’s smartphones in the near future. In your case though, should you give it a shot? Well, let’s take a look at what it has to offer.
It isn’t difficult to see why Brawl Stars appeal to a large audience and why people who play it are hooked. In a nutshell, the game is a fast-paced, MMO twin stick shooter wherein matches are marked by gameplay that would increase the adrenaline pumping through your veins. Moreover, it’s quite easy to learn and no marred by complicated gameplay elements which makes its learning curve bearable than its peers. Movement requires dragging along a virtual joystick on the left side of the screen. Aiming is done by dragging the right joystick, and releasing it lets you fire. Tapping the right joystick lets you shoot at the nearest target without having to aim. There’s also a smaller, yellow joystick on the right side of the screen which lets you aim and activate your brawler’s special ability.
Speaking of brawlers, there are currently 21 in total, they are divided into six classes which are defined by rarity. These are Common, Rare, Super Rare, Epic, Mythic, and Legendary. Of course, the rarer the brawler, the stronger and better it will be. Getting new characters can be done by purchasing them off the store inside brawl boxes which are essentially gachas. That being said, they are not one-dimensional characters either, as they have different skills which make them suited to fill specific roles. For example, brawlers like Colt are best placed in the back, providing long-range support while El Primo, a tank, is suited for close-range engagements to support and protect teammates. They also have their own weapons, ranging from guns, bows, and even shovels.
Brawl Stars game modes are varied and they provide a different appeal. Showdown is a battle royale-esque free-for-all, while Bounty is a team battle involving (as its name suggests) bounties for each player. Other modes include Brawl Ball, Gem Grab, and the safecracking Heist. In any case, the game is best played with friends since you will be treated to lots of fun just by either picking each other off, or cooperating.
In terms of presentation, Brawl Stars is nothing special but it does enough to be attractive. The sprites are fairly well-designed, and the skins available for purchase are worth it. Moreover, the game runs smoothly unless if you have an old or a budget smartphone.
Overall, Brawl Stars’ fame and increasing player-base is justified. It’s a well-made game that is on its way to being an international sensation. Regardless if you’re playing with randoms or with friends, it provides great fun and entertainment. If it’s available on your region today, today would be a great time to download it.
