Darkmoon Realm
Level up your hero and your team of powerful companions
Take on various bosses and rival players alike in its PvE and PvP modes
Farm for a variety of upgrade materials just so you can constantly improve your battle rating
Darkmoon Realm is a pretty typical idle-like and browser-based RPG that comes with an almost fully-automated and very casual gameplay, rapid progression (at least for the first 50-60 levels), lots of dungeons to raid, and a pretty competitive PvP scene. Battle throngs of enemies as you strive to become the best in the world!
To start playing, you’ll have to choose one of three classes, mage, warrior and priest. Besides being able to choose your username, there’s no other way for you to customize your character. Even the gender is locked for each class.
As mentioned, Darkmoon Realm is a browser RPG that offers a very casual gameplay experience. This means that almost every aspect of the game – at least the grindy parts – are automated including auto-quest and auto-combat, making it the perfect game to play on the side while you’re doing something else. With the auto-battle option, your character will even auto-farm mobs and stage bosses alternately.
However, I should point out that the game doesn’t automate the use of your “ultimate skill” a.k.a. Awakening Skill, unless you’re VIP 4 so if you’re facing a tough boss or enemy, make sure to manually click to activate the skill once the meter is filled up.
In Darkmoon Realm, you’ll be able to recruit heroes to aid you in combat as well. You’ll only start off with one slot, but as you accumulate more achievements, which can take a while, you’ll eventually be able to unlock the subsequent slot. There are many different quality of companions that you can summon and then deploy in your team, and you can also upgrade them in a variety of ways as long as you’ve got the upgrade materials at hand.
Besides your companions, there are tons of stuff in this game that you can upgrade and increase your Battle Rating, including your skills, warsoul trinket, treasures, wings, angels, mounts and many more. Some of these features are only unlocked much later on – once you are near to or have hit the level cap of level 80 – and not all of them can be easily found. You’ll really need to scour the game’s interface for basically anything that you can make use of to improve your stats and hence, your overall BR.
You can and should also constantly get better gear and don’t forget to enhance them as often as you can. You can craft “orange” gear pretty early on that will help you immensely at the beginning since this quality of items are the best in the game. They pretty much make any gear you get from normal drops obsolete , except from personal bosses and world bosses since you can earn some nice orange gear from them if you’re lucky. Thankfully, all those extra items won’t go to waste – you can dismantle them and turn them into enhance materials for your forge.
In addition to the stage bosses and special boss fights where you can get orange items, there are many material dungeons where you can enter a fixed number of times per day even if you’re willing to spend premium currency, which I would advise you to do. You can easily earn back the 500 gems you spent per dungeon easily once you’ve got the upgrade materials to improve your hero after all. Not to mention, there’s a floor-based, tower-climbing dungeon along with a dungeon called Bloody Altar where you’ll basically need to slay as many mobs as you can within the time limit and if you reached any of its kill thresholds, you’ll get the corresponding rewards.
Like many of its “sibling” browser RPGs, Darkmoon Realm only unlocks its PvP arena when you’re over halfway on your journey to the level cap. However, you should take note that there are actually an Arena Skirmish mode where you’ll battle not your fellow players but AIs so technically, that’s not a PvP mode. Instead, if you love PvP, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the tab right beside the Skirmish mode called the “Ladder”. This is the ranked PvP mode that may put you at the top spot of your server’s PvP leaderboard!
Despite being a freemium game and very much so a pay-to-win, Darkmoon Realm is pretty generous to its players whenever a new server is opened. For starters, did you know that the game gives you VIP 3 the moment you sign up to play on their latest server? It’s a limited-time offer for sure but it’s still a very generous (and free) offer. There are plenty more ways, such as the daily free treasure hunts or the lucky packets containing free gems (there’s a daily cap though) you can get free loot as long as you really scour each corner of the game’s interface.
Granted that a paying player could very easily lawnmowed all F2P players, if you’re dedicated enough, you might end up being the top F2P on your server that in of itself is a very impressive achievement!
Darkmoon Realm is also a pretty social game. There’s a guild system that you’ll unlock at level 61 and joining a guild as soon as you can is a very beneficial move mainly because you’ll have access to so many more upgrade options for your hero and your team. However, despite having a cost of 0 gems to create a new guild, I can’t seem to create one. It’s probably subjected to the VIP level you have and VIP 3 is probably not enough.
All in all, despite its many flaws, Darkmoon Realm is a pretty decent and very addictive, browser RPG that just reels you in via its generous rewards and casual gameplay, allowing you to do something else, like watching YouTube videos or writing an essay/report, while playing. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy idle-like RPGs like this one! Darkmoon Realm Summary
