Be treating to amazing graphics, beautiful artwork, and immersive gameplay.
We don’t know why Sword Quest isn’t that popular, and if you ask us, it deserves every bit of the spotlight it receives. Once you find yourself in the land of Feludia, there’s definitely no chance of you stopping immediately. Sword Quest’s lore, gameplay, and aesthetics make it a fantastic browser RPG, something that both casual and hardcore gamers would want to play.
The game’s lore sounds like something taken out of an anime series. Feludia is a magical land that is run by the power of swords, with magical beasts other elements of fantasy. Basically, swordsmithing is a popular, but highly difficult profession. Apart from great skill and determination, you will need to acquire rare materials as well.
Once you start playing, you will take the mantle of an apprentice swordsmith, who is still learning the ropes. Your roles and goals will be explained to you by a skimpy-dressed girl who in turn will help you create your first sword. The whole procedure is quite simple: buy your materials, place the ore on the table, and start hammering. At first, you will be tasked to create a simple copper sword which you will then use to battle the game’s entry-level monsters.
From then on, you will start adventuring and going on quests to defeat monsters troubling the land. These include weak goblins on a mountain to more powerful ones like fire dragons residing inside volcanoes. Of course, defeating these monsters will yield loot and materials for you to create more powerful and rarer swords. You will also win over pets to fight with you. Moreover, you can also collect different hammers for you be able to make your skills better.
The battle system is a bit confusing though. You’re supposed to click on a board which enables you to make a variety of attacks. Though we have to give the developers props for innovation and thinking outside the box, it kind of hinders the overall experience. It would have been better for a traditional point-and-click, choose your action type of battle system, but it’s too late to lament about this now. Aside from fighting monsters, you can also sign up in the arena to win fabulous prizes.
Apart from creating weapons for yourself, you also need to make weapons for the Feludians for them to use in battle. Since the land is now being invaded by the forces of evil, people arm themselves to rise up and do battle. Watch in awe as they use your swords to do so!
The game’s art is anime-style, although it’s not made by a Japanese developer (it was created by Doremi Star, a Taiwanese company), it looks nothing short of excellent. The character sprites, background art, and just about anything you lay your eyes on are fantastic. Undeniably though, the fan service can get a little too much at times, but it doesn’t ruin the whole game.
So, should you play Sword Quest? If you’re an RPG fan who loves a good story and stress-free gameplay, then it is definitely for you. Though the gameplay aspects aren’t deep, the atmosphere it provides is superb.
