Ghost Recon Online is a polished and well made game, though the concept of tactical shooters is far from the casual shooter games which consists of a simple point and shoot. In tactical shooters you have a certain goal to accomplish and you need to work with your teammates and use your gear and surrounding to your advantage. Dying in Ghost Recon Online is really easy as one or two bullets are enough to take you out. The re-spawning time is rather low though, so you can return to the action quickly after losing your head to an enemy sniper.
In Ghost Recon Online there are three types of classes you can play, each has it’s own weapons arsenal and a unique battlefield tech he can deploy for great advantages. As you play a class you gain experience for that class and level up. Higher levels allow you to purchase better equipment for your character, making you a superior killing machine in this hostile environment.
At level 2 and 8 you gain access to unique devices you can equip according to your class that grants you special abilities to use during matches. The abilities are pretty cool and last for a reasonable time and with a decent cool down, adding an interesting aspect to the game, one you need to practice and master in order to fully utilize them in the battlefield. Experience isn’t shared between the different classes so you can’t use your higher tier weapons on a lower level class.
According to your performance in the match you also gain money that is used to purchase new weapons, armor and upgrades. There is a nice variety of items you can purchase and all the weapons and armor in Ghost Recon Online are upgradeable by using attachments and inserts on them to improve their attributes.
For the game play, Ghost Recon feels like other games in the series, the 3rd person view is confusing at first and need to get used to, finding your enemies can be tricky as only the Recon class has an ability to discover close by enemies, so as long as you don’t have a Recon nearby, spotting that sniper or ambush that is ready to kill you is pretty hard. The maps are dotted with cover areas as shooting behind cover greatly improves your aim and stability, while providing protection from enemy fire.
Even though the basics in Ghost Recon are rather simple, it’s not an easy game to start and can be quite frustrating for those who are unfamiliar with tactical shooters. Ghost Recon has a completely different pace than other shooter games, it’s a much slower game, charging your enemies or even trying to flank them can get you killed pretty easily, utilizing your gear and working with your teammates is the only way for victory in this game.
The graphics and music are great, though there are occasionally graphical glitches which can be annoying when your enemy blinks in front of you as you try to shoot him and die suddenly from bullets that went through the wall besides you.
Ghost Recon Online is a great game for gamers who prefer tactical shooters over the casual first person shooters, it’s a well designed game with plenty of variation, cool weapons and abilities, several maps and daily missions that are updated constantly, providing you a great gaming experience.
