2017 was definitely a competitive year for MMOs because a new game seemed to surface every other day and every new game brought something fresh and interesting to the table. Since so many incredible games were released this year, picking out the top three was certainly a challenging task but we’ve pulled it off. The games in this list made it because they have near flawless execution in terms of their gameplay have, endless amounts of content to offer and, most importantly, they have the potential to keep players engrossed for hours upon hours.

The following three free to play MMO games are those that we feel have been this year’s best.

1: MU Legend

MU Legend is actually the sequel to MU Online, an MMORPG that came out more than a decade ago. MU Online was definitely ahead of its time when it first came out and, even in recent years, it maintained a massive playerbase so it doesn’t really come as a surprise that a sequel was made for it. The story of MU Legend is connected to that of MU Online in various ways and, in terms of gameplay, the game takes the tried and true fundamentals of the original MU Online and somehow makes them even better than they already were. The game also comes with top-of-the-line visuals that are a step above what other modern day MMORPGs have had to offer.

2: Crossout

Crossout is a phenomenal post-apocalyptic MMO that’s a delight to play mainly because it’s filled to the brim with chaos and also due to the fact that it doesn’t really restrict players regarding what they can and can’t do. The game revolves around scavenging parts to build destructive cars and, once you’ve built up your cars, you’ll be able to do absolutely anything you want to whether it’s simply exploring the game world or wreaking havoc on opponents. The game also puts a lot of emphasis on PvP so you’ll be allowed to take on other opponents from around the world to see who’s designed the better death machine.

3: Shadowgun Legends

The main reason why Shadowgun Legends landed a spot on this list is the fact that it manages to bring the full-fledged MMO experience to players in the comfort of their mobile devices. Mobile based MMOs have been around for a while but they’ve always been lacking in terms of quality. These games either have mediocre visuals or they don’t have enough content and this is why a lot of players can’t really get immersed in them. Shadowgun Legends, on the other hand, manages to provide some absolutely stunning visuals and phenomenal gameplay to players in a neat little package that they can enjoy on the go.

All said and done, the aforementioned three MMOs are those that we think stood out as the best of 2017 and, due to this, it’s highly recommended that you give them a shot if you get the chance.
