Arrowmancer is a blend of mechanics that doesn’t seem to work at first glance until you get to play the game. It’s a collector RPG that combines elements found in rhythm games.
The story starts with Kairos and Fig: two space witches reminiscing the times when they were still studying magic. They were in the middle of questioning the point of all that when they got embroiled in a conspiracy neither of them was aware of.
You’ll be tagged along with the main cast, as well as a band of misfits you’d come across going farther into the story. The tutorial missions cover the game’s basics. It’s a short course on forming a team, the flow of combat, and clearing stages.
Let’s get into some of the details here. Arrowmancer seems simple based on the game’s appearance. Your characters are anime portrait tiles, and they look unique enough to possess individual charm and to a lesser extent, personality. The team-building aspect common in gacha games is present here. You’ll form teams of 3 using characters obtained while playing. Stages are designed as tile grids where you can move your units the way you do a tile puzzle. Enemy characters are also represented as square tokens, and you get to choose a target and try to take them out of the fight.
Combat in Arrowmancer is a unique experience. You’re given time to use a unit skill by tapping on their portrait. This is done only once per turn, so choose wisely. The real fighting starts once you choose a character to engage an enemy with.
The battle sequence, which the game calls a ‘Dance’, is a race against time to string as many combos as you can within the allowed limit. It’s a wild test of hand and eye coordination as you follow patterns shown to you by your units. Arrows on any of the 8 directions mean you need to place a character on the next tile. Seeing a circle means you’re required to bring a unit to the playing field’s borders. Getting a feel of pattern recognition and speedily forming what is needed takes practice. Enemies will throw in their efforts to waste your time and make less combos. Their attacks take the form of glowing pink tiles on the battlefield. Any of your team members coming in contact with it take damage. They come in different patterns and speeds, so evading them will again, take a matter of keeping your awareness and quick-thinking. The game is better played with headphones. Various electronic soundtracks await you.
The finished stages reward you with diamonds. A completed stage has 3 criteria for the best rewards: all opponents are defeated, none of your party members are knocked out, and none of the enemy attacks scored a hit on any of your characters. You also get various item drops to improve your characters’ stats and skills. Making the most powerful teams require a time investment, and will mean stages are going to be repeatedly played to get everything you need.
Characters can be obtained as either stage drops or through a gacha banner. You’d need to spend Diamonds to gain higher-rarity units like 5 or 6-star ones. Expect some characters will be limited, so decide well on whether or not you need featured units badly enough.
Summing this up, Arrowmancer’s unconventional gameplay can be an acquired taste, but it rewards those who like a little more than just an anime character collector. Try the app and download it today.Leer Másviernes, septiembre 9, 2022
