Pokémon TCG Pocket Beginner's Guide

Beoordeel dit Artikel Before you dive into Pokemon TCG Pocket, it's important to know what you're up against and what the gameplay is all about. After all, Pokemon TCG has been around for quite a while, and you'll likely face off against seasoned players! MMO Square - Pokémon TCG Pocket Beginner's Guide

After receiving a bunch of positive reviews from the mobile gaming community, the team behind Pokémon TCG Pocket announced on November 13, 2024 that they are working for more updates to make the app more enjoyable, such as adding more booster packs and enabling the trade option for certain cards.

Unlike Pokémon TCG Live, which simulates the same rules of tabletop Pokémon TCG, Pokémon TCG Pocket made itself unique by allowing its users to feel the thrill of opening digital booster packs as well as playing the cards they pulled in a game with simple mechanics.
As Pokémon TCG Pocket introduces more features, it will be no surprise that the app’s player base will keep on growing for months to come.

For those of you who just recently started your journeys in Pokémon TCG Pocket, this guide will give you all the information you need as a beginner, so you can have a better head start than those who played during the app’s release.

What to remember before installing Pokémon TCG Pocket

Just a disclaimer: this guide will contain lots of spoiler content to help you make better decisions when opening your packs. Before installing Pokémon TCG Pocket on your mobile device, choose what kind of account you want to have. Are you more of a card collector or a player? Your answer will heavily influence the cards that you want to get on the app.

If your intention of playing Pokémon TCG Pocket is mainly to collect digital cards, you can open packs for the purpose of pulling chase cards, such as full arts and crown rares. If you enjoy playing Pokémon cards, on the other hand, you might want to open packs with the expectation of pulling cards that enable you to build decks.

In case your answer is both, then welcome aboard! Pokémon TCG Pocket will be an awesome app for you. You may now install the app and create an account.

Selecting your first booster pack

Once you have your Pokémon TCG Pocket account and in-game name set up, you will be greeted by three booster packs: a Charizard pack, a Mewtwo pack, and a Pikachu pack.

Choose one of three packs to pull your first set of Pokémon cards. This process is similar to selecting your starter Pokémon in the mainline games, because your choice will affect the card that you will receive on your first Wonder Pick.

Each of the packs will contain a Pokémon ex: for the Charizard pack you’ll get Exeggutor ex, Marowak ex for the Mewtwo pack, and Arcanine ex for the Pikachu pack. The game tutorial will then provide you with another chance to open a pack. Again, the choice is yours.

Opening a pack consumes pack stamina, which replenishes within 12 hours. In total, you can have your pack stamina filled twice in a day. If you got a resource called Pack Hourglasses, you can speed up the regeneration of your pack stamina, so you can open more than two packs in a day.

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Wonder Pick feature

The Wonder Pick in Pokémon TCG Pocket is a feature where you get to choose randomly from five cards pulled by other players. However, for the tutorial, you will receive a Basic Pokémon card in default, featuring one of the Kanto starters.

Those who picked the Charizard pack at the start of the tutorial will get the full art Charmander, a full art Bulbasaur for the Mewtwo pack, and a full art Squirtle for the Pikachu pack.
The Wonder Pick feature also has a meter that consumes wonder stamina, which can be recovered by spending items like Wonder Hourglasses.

Open more packs as you proceed through the tutorial

The in-game tutorial will help you breeze through all the other base features of Pokémon TCG Pocket, such as the binder, card displays, and deck builder. As you level up and learn everything that the app can offer, you will complete missions where you will be rewarded with at least a hundred Pack Hourglasses. You can spend these Hourglasses to open around ten to twenty packs, which will help you start your card collection.

Charizard packs contain cards that are well-suited for Charizard fans and those who prioritize collecting beautiful full art cards. You can even build strong decks like Charizard ex and Starmie ex with these packs.

Mewtwo packs are arguably the best choices for hardcore players who want to build meta and tournament-worthy decks like Mewtwo ex-Gardevoir combo, Dragonite, Articuno ex, Venusaur ex, and Koga decks.

Lastly, Pikachu packs have an extensive roster of well-drawn full-art cards that collectors will surely trade for powerful cards. The best deck that you can build with these packs is none other than the Pikachu ex deck, which is quite hard to counter with its seemingly unbalanced Circle Circuit move.

That wraps it up! Pokémon TCG Pocket is shaping up to be one of the breakout games in 2024. However, if you’re looking to have a break from its strategic depth and complexity there are other games for guys you can dive into.
