Released back on December 19th, 2019, Borderlands 3’s first, out of a total of five planned DLCs, Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, was released to Very Positive reviews with many claiming that the DLC harkens back to the good old Borderlands 2 days, which is high praise indeed considering that Borderlands 2 has been ranked time and again to be the best Borderlands game ever.

This expansion lets players travel to the late Handsome Jack’s massive and extravagant, Las Vegas-style casino resort, dubbed the Handsome Jackpot, that’s teeming with Hyperion security forces and crazed casino-goers once they have played the main story campaign far enough to access Sanctuary III.

In this DLC, players are able to team up with the alluring Mad Moxxi in her quest to get into the Handsome Jackpot’s core and take control of the casino as an act of belated revenge against her ex for destroying her gladiatorial arena, the Underdome, after she left him. Naturally, spoilers aside, there will be some Pandoran surprises and humor along the way as well as epic boss fights to dive into.

Besides a brand-new story to enjoy, the DLC also introduces new Crew Challenges and hence, more hidden collectibles to collect. At the end of the day, players will get to break open a safe full of Eridium, cash and all-new Legendary loot too. Both enemies and loot, ranging from new Vault Hunter skins to lots of sweet orange gear, do scale according to the player’s level as detailed on the DLC’s official webpage and thus, making the experience here so much more rewarding.

Unfortunately, despite the whole casino motif, you won’t be able to head down to the floor yourself and try your luck by playing some slots at the Handsome Jackpot. This DLC does though put a big light on the casino gaming scene and does give you a test of what real online slots look like. Of course, in real online casinos, the bet doesn't raise automatically because you are at a higher level.

Still, considering the hours of playtime and fun content you’d get out of this expansion, Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is a bang for your buck, even if you buy it separately on your platform of choice whether it is on PC, Playstation 4 or Xbox One. You can also obtain this DLC by purchasing the season pass or Borderlands 3’s Super Deluxe edition, which would give you a nice “bulk” discount.
