Getting the hang of the basics of an FPS game is a pretty easy task but developing a true mastery of these games is extremely challenging and you’ll probably make a lot of mistakes before becoming truly adept at games of the genre. In this article we’ll be highlighting the common mistakes that many players end up making in FPS games so that you can avoid making them when you play.

1: Choosing the Wrong Weapons for the Situation

Having a weapon of preference is fine and all but you need to come to terms with the fact that certain weapons, no matter how good you are at using them, simply will not perform optimally in certain situations. For example, you may be an absolute pro with shotguns but in long range encounters you can’t hope to take down any of your foes if the only gun you’re carrying is a shotgun. You need to analyze the battlefield and pick your weapons accordingly so that you don’t give your opponents a weapon advantage right from the get-go.

2: Spending too Much on Unnecessary Things

Most shooter games utilize a round based system in which players get to purchase weapons at the beginning of each round. A lot of players tend to blow all their money on equipment and weapons that they won’t even use and because of this they have to struggle economically in the rounds to come. You should only spend money on weapons when it’s absolutely necessary and should never waste any on overpriced equipment that you won’t even get to use.

3: Becoming a bit too Confident and Going off Alone

Almost every shooter game is team based and this means that you’ll need to coordinate with your teammates if you want to come out ahead of your opponents. However, a lot of players simply ignore this fact and wander off alone thinking that they can take out their enemies by outplaying them and because of this mistake they often get picked off and ultimately lose their team the entire round. No matter how skilled you are, you should never wander off on your own because you simply cannot take on an entire team solo.

4: Not Prioritizing Objectives

Many players play shooting games simply to take down their foes in head to head fights and obliterate their opponents with superior gunplay. However, due to all the action that goes on in these games, players often forget that there’s an actual objective that they need to accomplish in order to win the round. Simply killing off all the enemies isn’t enough to win because you actually need to perform objectives like securing a designated site or transporting a cargo safely from one part of the map to another.

All said and done, if you avoid making the aforementioned mistakes while playing FPS games then you’ll surely play a lot better than you usually do and will win a whole lot more.
