Objective control is without a doubt one of the most important, and at the same time one of the most over looked, factors when it comes to winning in MOBA games. In this article we’ll be shedding some light on just why you should prioritize objectives so highly when playing these games.

Perhaps the biggest reason to prioritize objectives over other things is the simple fact that you just won’t win without doing so. While killing your enemies over and over again might be fun, the real objective is to destroy the enemy base and you just won’t win until you do so.

One key reason you for prioritizing objectives over kills is that they usually lead to a lot more benefits. Sure you might have more fun outplaying your opponent 1v1 and scoring a kill but the gold earned from kills is pretty limited when compared to the value of objectives. For example, you might individually get more gold from a kill than you would from a tower but the thing you’re not thinking about is the fact that your team will get a much higher net gold amount if you take down a tower because the gold will actually be spread around to all the members so the net amount will be much higher than the amount of gold earned for a kill.

Other than just gold, taking objectives also leads to your team getting many bonuses. There are a lot of objectives that don’t give players any gold but instead give their entire team some sort of damage, movement speed or tankiness buff that they can use to trample their enemies. It’s worth mentioning that securing objectives that give buffs is usually a pretty difficult tasks because the monsters that grant them are quite strong but the task is almost always worth the effort because of how potent the buffs are and how they can turn the tide of any match in your favor.

Prioritizing objectives isn’t just so that you can get ahead of your opponents but it’s also because you want them to stay as far behind as possible. Whenever you take a neutral objective you’re not just taking it for your own team, you’re actually denying it from the enemy team as well thereby bringing them to an even higher deficit than they were at before. If you don’t prioritize objectives and try to simply steamroll through your enemies you’ll probably end up getting overconfident and will likely make mistakes that will cause your opponents to pick you off, score an objective and eventually claw their way back into the game. Not prioritizing objectives is essentially the easiest way to give your opponents a way back into the game so you should always stay focused on them rather than on killing the enemy as many times as you can.

All said and done, we hope that the points mentioned above have informed you why it’s important to prioritize objectives over kills in MOBA games. Needless to say, if you haven’t already tried out a MOBA game yet, we highly recommend doing so because they’re just so addictive.
